Westwood High School senior Dezaray Futrell is a shining example of leadership, academic excellence, and service to her community. With an impressive 4.3 GPA, Dezaray has consistently demonstrated a commitment to her education while actively engaging in opportunities that allow her to lead and uplift others.
After graduation, Dezaray plans to attend Christian Brothers University, where she will major in Biochemistry. Her dedication to academic achievement has already earned her over $300,000 in scholarship offers from various universities, including a prestigious merit scholarship from Christian Brothers University—a testament to her hard work and academic excellence.
Dezaray’s leadership extends far beyond the classroom. She was selected through a competitive interview process to serve on the Memphis Youth City Council, a prestigious group of student leaders dedicated to representing and advocating for young people in the Memphis community. As part of this role, Dezaray and her fellow council members recently met with the Memphis City Council to formally present and introduce the Memphis Youth City Council, an accomplishment that had not occurred in the past four years. During the presentation, the group shared their achievements and unveiled their blueprint for initiatives and events planned for the 2026–2027 council year.
Service is also a major part of Dezaray’s life. She participates in monthly community service projects and helps organize youth-centered events designed to empower and engage young people, including initiatives such as the Youth Voice Summit. Her passion for helping others and amplifying youth perspectives reflects her commitment to making a meaningful difference in her community.
At Westwood High School, Dezaray continues to lead by example. She serves as President of the National Beta Club and is the Captain of the Band Majorette Team, demonstrating outstanding leadership both academically and in extracurricular activities. In the classroom, she is known for her dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic—always submitting thoughtful, high-quality work on time. Her stamina, positive attitude, and caring nature make her not only an excellent student but also a valued member of her school community.
Dezaray Futrell represents the very best of Westwood High School and the JAGTN program. Her determination, leadership, and heart for service position her for a bright future in science and community leadership. We look forward to seeing the incredible impact she will continue to make in the years ahead.
